To evaluate the level of pollution in the air environment, researchers at the Center for High-Tech Research and Development, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, have successfully mastered the technology and localization in designing and manufacturing ManPMS - a specialized dust mass sampling device for environmental monitoring and surveillance - in the project: "Research, manufacture and integration of dust mass sampling equipment (PM10, PM2 .5) in outdoor air environment” (code number CT0000.11/21-23).

Chairman Dr. Duong Thanh Nam and ManPMS - dust mass sampling equipment

The issue of air pollution is of great concern and regular monitoring of the density of polluting gases, PM2.5, PM10 dust, especially in urban environments, is a necessary requirement. Regular monitoring of PM2.5 or PM10 dust density and the concentration of polluting gases in our country is currently carried out by a network of automatic and continuous monitoring stations and a manual monitoring network. Currently, Vietnam has about 320 automatic and continuous PM10 and PM2.5 dust monitoring devices and 1,200 dust monitoring points (PM10, PM2.5) with different sampling principles and techniques for state management on the environment. Most typical dust monitoring equipment is bulky, heavy and expensive. Dust measuring and sampling equipment must be imported from abroad.

In order to localize products and reduce production and transportation costs, Dr. Duong Thanh Nam and his colleagues chose to research and manufacture dust sampling equipment to help strictly control product quality, while also ensuring specific standards and requirements of the domestic market. In particular, researchers have mastered the technology of manufacturing ManPMS - a weight reference sample collection device according to EPA 40-CFR Part 50 standards and localized up to 80% in the design and manufacture of the hardware, system integration and control software such as successfully self-manufacturing the PM10 dust sample collector, PM2.5 particle separator, flow control differential pressure measuring device, extension tube, filter holder, and housing box.

The product has integrated software, the system's interface is designed to be simple, easy to learn and read, and user-friendly. The software is implemented through the combination of research support devices such as "multi-channel data collector", "data collector integrated chassis" and "industrial computer", which help collect data from temperature, humidity, flow, volume, velocity and time sensors. ManPMS control software is user-oriented with many features in accordance with current regulations such as configuration settings block (flow, sampling, time, tightness, units, warnings), operation block (run/stop, parameters, alarm), calibration block (flow, temperature, humidity, pressure) and calculation and data storage block.

ManPMS - PM10/ PM2.5 mass sample collection device

Evaluation results show that the PM10 sampling head (VAST-PM10L-1) and the FRM PM10 dimeric molecule have a relatively good correlation, R2 = 0.90. Experimental statistical results show that there is no significant difference between VAST-PM2.5-WINS and other sample collection devices in collecting PM2.5 dust samples. The slope, intercept, and correlation coefficient (R2) of the linear regression lines of the pairwise comparisons show a good comparison between the collection performance of VAST-PM2.5-WINS and that of VSCC (R2 > 0.99), and TEOM-FDMS (R2 > 0.98).

The test results evaluating the measurement properties of ManPMS are completely consistent with the measurement specifications. Implementing research results into practice is necessary and brings great value to the environmental field. Specifically, ManPMS can be applied in air quality monitoring in urban areas and industrial zones, collecting data and samples for research on air quality and the impact of pollutants. contaminating health and the environment. It is also used to measure the effectiveness of measures to control dust pollution from vehicles and industry, and reduce energy consumption. The group's research also contributes to providing dust sampling solutions (PM10 or PM2.5) under real conditions in Vietnam, to support domestic products and reduce dependence on imported equipment.

Scientists have published their research results in a scientific article in a prestigious international journal under the SCIE category and many domestic scientific journals and conferences. The results of the project were graded B by the Acceptance Council of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Dr. Duong Thanh Nam and his colleagues hope to soon bring ManPMS - a dust mass sampling device - to widespread use, and wishes to coordinate with relevant organizations, including government agencies, environmental organizations and domestic science and technology equipment development companies in deploying the equipment in practice. Information and results from this research can be used to develop applications and solutions in various fields such as environmental research, healthcare and technology.
