International survey by ship Academician Lavretyev
Ship "Akademik M.A. Lavrentyev"
The marine survey trip by the ship "Akademik M.A. Lavrentyev" contributes to the concretization of the objectives of the "Vietnam Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Marine Economy to 2030, vision to 2045", and belongs to the Mission: "The 1st Geology, Geophysics, and Oceanographic Survey and Research between VAST and FEB RAS by Akademik M.A. Lavrentyev in Vietnamese waters" (Code: QTRU02.05/19-20).
Regarding research exchange cooperation, a number of outstanding issues in research on geology, geophysics, marine minerals and oceanography have been directly discussed on the ground by members of the two countries. Accordingly, samples and measurement data that do not meet scientific standards are re-carried out, as well as areas with geophysical and oceanographic structures are especially interested in measuring at a higher ratio. Regarding access to advanced technologies, Vietnamese delegation members have acquired technologies for technical handling of arising situations in deep-water marine research, sample processing and technology process for gas geochemical research, gas separation, microbiological sampling process and hydroacoustic and geophysical measurement material processing methods in the field...
The results of the field survey have created a multidisciplinary database system of geology, geophysics, marine minerals, geochemical gas and oceanography in deep water in three large areas on the continental shelf of Vietnam: Area I, Southeast continental shelf (Nam Con Son sedimentary basin, the southeastern basin of the South China Sea); Area II on the South Central Continental Shelf (Phu Khanh Sedimentary Basin), and Area III on the North Central Continental Shelf (south of the Red River Sedimentary Basin).
After the survey trip, scientists from both countries published a monograph on the research results of the ship "Akademik M.A. Lavrentyev". In the monograph, the future research orientation was jointly compiled by scientists of the two countries. The fields of gas geochemistry, oceanography and microbiology are headed by scientists of the Russian Federation, Vietnamese scientists lead the contents on of geology and geophysics.
Dr. Do Huy Cuong, leader of the project, said that the geology, geophysics and oceanographic data collected in this study make an important contribution to current and future marine studies. At the same time, the research results can be used for extraction, search for marine minerals and applications in the construction of deep-sea structures, assessing potential risks of accidents hidden on the seabed. He and his colleagues successfully organized an international scientific conference at Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. The cooperation between the two research institutes of Vietnam and the Russian Federation to carry out this task has brought initial success in research analysis on geology, geophysics and oceanography on the continental shelf of Vietnam.
The results of the project were published by research groups on 02 prestigious scientific articles on the list of SCIE and rated excellent by the Acceptance Council of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
