18/12/2023
On November 30, 2023, Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) Prof. Dr. Le Truong Giang had a meeting with the delegation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation led by Mr. Mogilevsky Konstantin Ilyich, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

Also participating in welcoming the delegation was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Son, Director of Institute of Materials Science; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Phong, Vice Principal of USTH; and Dr. Nguyen Hoang Duong, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department.

Mr. Mogilevsky Konstantin said that during his visit to Vietnam in April 2023, at the meeting of the Vietnam - Russia Intergovernmental Committee on economic - trade and scientific - technical cooperation, VAST and other partners’ Russian authors discussed many issues surrounding the field of education and training. He also said that scientific organizations and universities of the Russian Federation have had many cooperations with Vietnam in fields such as biochemistry, marine research, materials science, especially cooperation conducted by the Far Eastern Sub-Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (FEBRAS) with VAST within the framework of the Roadmap to 2025 on marine research. Currently, the deadline for this roadmap is nearing its end. Therefore, he proposed that the two sides draft a new cooperation program on building joint marine research projects. One of the next important directions that the Russian side mentioned is to research climate flows affecting the seas as well as land in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam. The Russian side has conducted such research on the territory of the Russian Federation, related to the process of climate change. In addition, Mr. Mogilevsky Konstantin also informed more about the change in the funding structure for a number of research and training projects and affirmed his readiness to support the Vietnamese side in selecting research implementation projects from the funds.

Welcoming Mr. Mogilevsky Konstantin and the delegation back to Vietnam, Vice President Le Truong Giang noted that in recent times, relations and cooperation in the field of education and training of the two countries have had many positive changes, opening up many new directions for cooperation. The Vice President also thanked the Deputy Minister for information about some of Vietnam's cooperation with the Russian Federation. VAST has a long history of cooperation with partners of the Russian Federation, including the Russian Academy of Sciences and, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR). The amount of research that VAST funds for cooperation with Russia also accounts for a large amount of the Institute's research. Currently, VAST is restructuring its cooperation with the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR) to build larger-scale projects, to establish mixed research groups among Vietnamese scientists, focusing on publishing scientific works. The cooperation process between the two sides in recent times has created mutual trust, and the Vice President hopes that cooperation will continue to be further promoted in the future, especially in marine research. as the Deputy Minister mentioned.

In addition to marine research, VAST is also very interested in cooperating with Russian universities and research institutes in the field of materials science, developing new energy materials and other materials.

After meeting him, Mogilevsky Konstantin and the delegation visited the training facility of USTH - VAST university to continue discussing specifically potential cooperation issues between the two sides.
